A couple months ago we shared why we love sunsets in Frederiksted — and The Travel recently named St. Croix as #1 of 20 Destinations With The Most Stunning Sunsets — but we also love sunrise at Point Udall. As the eastern-most point in the United States, on St. Croix we are the first to see the sunrise in the U.S.

One of the most popular mornings to see a sunrise at Point Udall is New Year’s Day. Hundreds of people make the voyage out east to celebrate the first day of the year, arriving at all hours leading up to first light. The sunrise gives a spectacular show of colors before the sun even crests the horizon. Then, with the first sighting of the sun, the crowd erupts with cheers.

If you’re not here for the New Year’s celebreation, a sunrise at Point Udall is still worth the trip. We recommend that you go a good 30-40 minutes before the actual sunrise time to take in all the colors. And don’t let a few clouds stop you — you’ll still get a beautiful show!

Sunrise this time of year is around 6:45am. Use timeanddate.com to plan your Point Udall sunrise excursion.

Celebrating 30 Years
In celebration of Centerline’s 30th anniversary, we’re sharing 30 Things Centerline Loves About St. Croix. Each week we’ll share something new — and we hope you’ll chime in on social media by telling us what you love too! Our big 3-0 is in March 2020, when we’ll also be giving away a St. Croix vacation.
