We took a quick spin around town with Alexander Hamilton in a Jeep Renegade. Seeing the architecture and learning the history through the Eyes of Hamilton offers a unique perspective of Christiansted.
Why a Jeep Renegade?
Alexander Hamilton was known as a renegade, defying convention and rising from humble beginnings to become a revolutionary thinker. Ultimately, he was a polarizing figure in early American politics.
A little Hamilton history
Alexander Hamilton moved to St. Croix at the age of seven and lived here until age 15 (1765-1772). He went on to be a Founding Father of the United States, serving as the first Secretary of the Treasury and establishing the nation’s financial system. He played a crucial role in shaping the U.S. Constitution and advocating for its ratification through his contributions to the Federalist Papers.
Lin-Manuel Miranda brought Alexander Hamilton back to life through his groundbreaking musical Hamilton, which reimagines Hamilton’s story with a diverse cast and a blend of hip-hop, R&B, and traditional show tunes.
Here on St. Croix, Wayne Nichols has brought the renegade, Alexander Hamilton, back in his Eyes of Hamilton tour. The walking tour of Christiansted gives a comprehensive history of where Hamilton lived and worked from a first-person perspective. While Miranda’s version of Hamilton refers to St. Croix as, “…the middle of a forgotten spot in the Caribbean,” the Eyes of Hamilton will share how his time on St. Croix played such a pivotal role in his life.
