At Centerline, our top priority is keeping you safe, which starts with car care. Tire pressure monitoring is an important part of our regular routine and should be part of yours too. Improperly inflated tires can cause many issues, like excessive wear, lower gas mileage, and poor handling. Be sure to check the air pressure in your tires regularly to keep your vehicle performing optimally.
How Much Tire Pressure?
Tire pressure is measured in pounds per square inch (psi). The recommended psi is typically found on a sticker inside the driver’s door and in the driver’s manual. The sidewall of your tires may also indicate a psi, but this is the maximum pressure. The psi on your door sticker or manual is the ideal pressure.
How Often Should You Check Tire Pressure?
Centerline’s Director of Operations says to check your tire pressure at a bare minimum every six months, but preferably monthly. And especially check your tires if you think you’ve run over something sharp, hit a curb, or encountered one of St. Croix’s infamous potholes.
Newer vehicles, like those in our fleet, also have a pressure monitor system that alerts you when tire pressure is low. Be sure to keep an eye out for that indicator light and take action when it comes on.
